LAN Associates joined members from the Board of Education, school officials, students, and parents to mark the official groundbreaking on various improvements at athletic facilities for the Monroe-Woodbury Central School District.

The $8.4 million project will upgrade athletic fields and mechanical equipment at the Monroe-Woodbury High School, which shares property and athletic facilities with the Monroe-Woodbury Middle School and Central Valley Elementary School. The District required a design that addressed the varying needs for their student-athletes and the general student population.

“These upgrades are long overdue, and when completed, will provide our students with a modern, safe and usable environment where they can practice sports, conduct school activities, host competitions and gather for physical education classes,” said Lori Hock, Athletic Director for the District. “The installation of the new artificial turf athletic fields will provide a more consistent playing surface that will elevate the quality of our athletic facilities and endeavor to match the success of our athletic programs.  We are grateful for the community’s support of this vision.”

$6.4 million of athletic facility improvements at Monroe-Woodbury High School will be completed this summer. The following upgrades will be performed:

  • Replacement of the existing grass athletic field and Track with a new multi-use artificial turf athletic field and eight lane track that includes areas for steeplechase, pole vault, triple jump, and high jump.
  • Replacement of existing athletic field lighting with new energy efficient, high CRI, LED athletic field lighting.
  • Replacement of existing multi-sport scoreboard.
  • Installation of a new 500 seat bleachers.
  • Relocation of an existing softball field and field drainage improvements.

“Since 2016, LAN has worked with the Monroe-Woodbury Central School District on the implementation of nearly $13m of various capital improvement projects,” said Matthew Milnamow, Associate, Project Architect at LAN Associates. “The design of athletic facilities for our K-12 clients provides a sophisticated environment for athletic competition and enhances the opportunities for student-athletes.”

School district voters approved the $8.4 million capital project in Fall of 2018, which also includes $1 million of mechanical upgrades. With construction underway, both projects are expected to be completed by the start of the 2019 school year.
